The detached house on Deep Water Bay Road where Leung Chung-ho, former non-executive director of New World and his wife lived, was stolen the year before. There were more than 14 million yuan in jewellery watches stolen from the home. After questioning, it was revealed that it was all the work of the two Filipino domestic helpers. The Filipino domestic helpers also hired two fellow villagers to help pawns and so on.

Three Filipino domestic helpers pleaded guilty to 16 counts of theft and handling of stolen goods in the High Court today (2nd). The judge adjourned the case until next Tuesday and sentenced.

Three defendants: NONES Carmelita Galay (47 years old), NONES Maricris Galay (32 years old), ALAGNA Cristina Noble (51 years old).

The first defendant pleaded guilty to 6 counts of theft, the second and third defendants each pleaded guilty to 4 counts and 6 counts of handling stolen goods.

The police inspected the pawn shop to expose the theft

The victim, Leung Chung Ho, is a descendant of the wealthy businessman Liang Cheong. He and his wife lived in a detached house on Deep Water Bay Road. The first defendant was their domestic helper at the time of the case.

According to the case, in July 2019, when the police conducted regular inspections at the pawn shop, they discovered that the pawn record involving the first defendant was suspicious and revealed the case.

In September of the same year, the police questioned the victim and the couple. The couple confirmed that the pawned items belonged to them, but they never gave the items to the first defendant and the first defendant was arrested for this reason.

The investigation found that between May 2018 and September 2019, the first defendant repeatedly stole jewelry and a small amount of cash from the victim's couple. The lost items included necklaces, earrings, bracelets and watches, with a total value of more than 14 million yuan.

The victim needs to spend 1.4 million yuan to redeem the jewellery

The first defendant gave part of the lost property to others for safekeeping, or pawned the property.

The second and third defendants repeatedly pawned the items according to the instructions of the first defendant. The total value of the lost property involved was about 2 million and 1 million respectively.

The two people then gave the money from the pawn to the first defendant.

Part of the lost property was recovered in the first defendant’s room, and the person involved in the safekeeping of the first defendant also returned the lost property. However, the victim and his wife still had to spend about 1.4 million yuan to redeem the jewelry from the store.

The first defendant pleaded with the mother to raise medical expenses

The defense pleaded that the first defendant committed a crime to raise the medical expenses of his mother, but his mother died in the end.

Both the second defendant and the third defendant stated that they both provided assistance after the incident, and the third defendant assisted in redeeming the lost property.

The lawyer representing the third defendant also pointed out that the third defendant had a simple mind and was easily manipulated, and submitted a letter from a former employer who was a senior inspector. The former employer praised the third defendant for his honesty.
