Today, Tartous Governorate completed all operations to remove pollution spots with fuel material on the beach and in the depth of the territorial waters, and the situation will be monitored for a period of 3 days to ensure that the beach is free of any pollution.
Engineer Bassam Hammoud, Deputy Head of the Executive Office of the Tartous Governorate Council, head of the committee in charge of following up on the issue of pollution treatment, said that within three days, the fuel spots were removed from the beach in Baniyas, with the efforts of individuals and with the help of mechanisms from various companies, in addition to the Bosra Al-Sham boat of the Ports Directorate designated to raise pollution. Maritime.
Hammoud indicated that the committee will follow up for an additional three days to monitor the beach to treat the emergence of any oil slicks, deal with and combat them, pointing out that the collected leaked fuel quantities will be moved to another place under the supervision of the Environment Directorate to prevent any environmental damage.
It is noteworthy that quantities of fuel leaked from one of the thermal station tanks on Baniyas beach and led to the pollution of the beach in Banias city.
