Evelyn Heigl and Veronika Hegel, two teachers from the technical school for curative education care in Herzogsägmühle, became aware of the project “write it on every wall”.
Amnesty International initiated it on its 60th anniversary.
Herzogsägmühle
- The idea of designing a wall in the Deckerhalle on the village square with the phrase "Environmental protection is human protection" was presented to Wilfried Knorr, the managing director of Diakonie Herzogsägmühle. After they had received the promise to use the wall and Sabine Wessels from Amnesty International had promised the financing, the implementation could begin.
Two members of the Amnesty local group Kaufbeuren presented the work of the organization to the students of the intermediate course.
The Peitinger artist Petr Mayr has been won as artistic director.
He convinced the students of his idea to consider the extension of the general declaration of human rights by six articles demanded by Ferdinand von Schirach, and to implement the article "Everyone has the right to live in a healthy and protected environment".
In addition, the students took up his thoughts on depicting the environment using the elements earth, water, air and fire and choosing a plate with a suitable color made of aluminum dibond or plexiglass for each element, so that they can later be printed with suitable motifs by screen printing .
And then the time had come: The 26 students and their two teachers met in Petr Mayr's Peitinger studio and started the practical implementation.
First of all, the students had to learn the basic technical features of screen printing.
Furthermore, unexpected group dynamic hurdles had to be overcome.
But the seemingly impossible took shape, and the project was completed in the fourth day.
The five by two meter result was mounted on the wall of the decker hall, where it can be viewed from now on.
The many small-format prints of representational drawings make it possible to grasp the omnipresence of the environment worthy of protection and make the connection between "environmental protection is human protection" clear.
The statement is attached as additional lettering on a rainbow. Further information on the project, its creation and background information can be called up using QR codes.
