The Licensing Office has launched a revolutionary reform according to which instead of renewing every ten years as is customary today, the driver's license will be valid for over 50 years • MK Michaeli: "An important reform that will save bureaucracy and financial expense for every citizen"

Good news for drivers:

as of October 1, 2021, drivers will be issued a driver's license until the age of 70, instead of every 10 years as is the case today.

This, as part of a revolutionary reform that the Ministry of Transportation is promoting in driver's licenses in Israel.

Today (Thursday) the first license renewals were sent as part of the new reform.

These are drivers whose licenses will expire on October 1.

As part of the reform, the driver's license currently issued to drivers of private vehicles, motorcycles and commercial vehicles up to 12 tons, will be valid until the age of 70, instead of 10 years today.

After the age of 70, the license will be renewed every 5 years until the age of 80, after which the license will be renewed every two years as is customary today.

Meanwhile, the cost of issuing a driver's license up to the age of 70 will be only NIS 510.

This is a saving of about NIS 1,500 per driver.

This is beyond the hassle required of drivers today to renew their driver's license every 10 years, from the age of 24 to the age of 70.

The Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, MK Merav Michaeli, noted that in doing so, Israel joins many European countries in which driver's licenses are issued for an indefinite period or up to the age of 70 without the need to renew the license: In the next decade.

Today we are taking and taking another step to implement an important reform for the public in the field of driver's licenses, which will save bureaucracy and financial expense for every citizen. "

The issuance of a driver's license up to the age of 70 joins a long series of measures, initiated by the Ministry of Transportation in the past year, including accessing many licensing and online vehicle services on the Ministry of Transportation website, reducing bureaucracy and reducing fees.

The Ministry of Transportation now makes it possible to carry out most vehicle licensing and driving operations by online means, without having to go to a licensing office. Among the actions: renewal and issuance of a vehicle and driver's license, transfer of ownership of a vehicle, filing an appeal against the results of a theoretical or practical examination, registration for a correct driving course, submission of medical tests, request for issuance or update of a disabled badge, request for delivery Personal of vehicles and more.
