Berlin - Summer is over.

As expected by experts, the number of corona cases is already increasing in autumn.

The 7-day incidence * across Germany is 76.9 (previous day: 75.7 / previous week: 66.0).

That comes from the data of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday.

The incidence in the federal states is between 120.0 in North Rhine-Westphalia and 18.9 in Saxony-Anhalt.

13,715 new corona infections and 33 further deaths were recorded within 24 hours.

Incidentally, a week ago there were 1,089 fewer positive corona tests.

Corona: Hospitalization rate now at 1.81

The new indicator in the corona pandemic is the so-called hospitalization rate.

It indicates how many Covid 19 patients end up in the hospital.

According to the RKI situation report from Wednesday evening, 579 hospitalizations with Covid-19 were reported.

The 7-day incidence of hospitalized cases is therefore 1.81 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

A nationwide threshold, from when the situation becomes critical, is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.

However, the value only reflects the infection situation with a noticeable delay, as an average of ten days elapse between an infection and hospitalization.

According to the DIVI intensive care register, 1,135 corona patients must be treated in intensive care.

584 of them are artificially ventilated.

By the way, on September 2, exactly a year ago, there were 226 Covid intensive care patients.

Corona: vaccination quota in Germany

More than 60 percent of the population in Germany is now vaccinated against Corona.

A total of 54,297,654 people (65.3 percent) received at least one vaccination dose *.

This emerges from the data from the Federal Ministry of Health.

  • from 60 years - 82.7 percent

  • 18 to 59 years 65.2 percent

  • 12 to 17 years old - 21.3 percent

In the 12 to 17 year old age group, 21.3 percent are fully immunized (1 million).

1.4 million children and adolescents in this age group (32 percent of the population) have received at least one dose of vaccine.

  • There is currently no approved vaccine available for the 9.2 million people aged 0 to 11 living in Germany.

Why is it that some people easily cope with an infection with the coronavirus? As a rule, this is due to so-called memory immune cells: They recognize Sars-CoV-2 even though they have never had contact with the virus and set a quick defense reaction in motion. Scientists at the Berlin Charité have already demonstrated this cross-reactivity in 2020. In a new study, the research team is now explaining how the positive findings from then have a negative effect on the vaccination of older people.
