Several companies from the Schongau region are starting a joint aid mission to Ahrweiler today.

The district was badly hit by the floods in July.

District

- Rapidly rising water masses that carry everything that gets in their way with them, rubble and mud that is left over, people standing in front of the ruins of their existence.

The pictures that went around the world after the flood disaster in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate also affected Markus Eirenschmalz from Schwabsoien.

“It really looks really wild,” is how he sums up his impressions.

Since the flood, which hit the Ahr valley particularly hard, Eirenschmalz has been following the situation in the battered region closely on social media.

And finally he went one step further: it was clear to him that he wanted to lend a hand.

He contacted local companies via Facebook and offered his help.

Clarified with them what was needed.

Markus and Anton Eirenschmalz organized a relief campaign

Together with his father Anton Eirenschmalz from the corporate group of the same name, he called several companies in the region to organize a joint aid mission in Ahrweiler.

Started with the thought “let's see if we can bring something together”, the two immediately met with great interest, says Markus Eirenschmalz.

Ten people want to start the journey to Ahrweiler today and tackle the flood area.

In addition to Eirenschmalz, the companies Emter from Altenstadt, Nowotny from Osterzell and HRW from Peiting are participating.

They want to help by September 6, so they arrive with heavy equipment: “Excavators, wheel loaders, dump trucks”, Markus Eirenschmalz lists among other things.

Numerous companies from the region support relief efforts in the flood area

The helpers receive support from other companies in the region, explains Eirenschmalz.

The stock brewery and the Zimmermann beverage market from Roßhaupten will donate drinks to the helpers.

The transport companies Mayrock from Hohenfurch and Gröbl from Bobingen each provide a trailer.

The nine helpers do not want to take any donations in kind with them when they go to their first aid mission in September.

“That's why I phoned someone up there,” explains Eirenschmalz.

You first have to get an idea of the situation and the extent of the catastrophe.

Look what is actually missing.

“Now it's all about cleaning up.” At a later point in time, he could also imagine another trip to Ahrweiler with donations in kind.

It is important that you are in direct contact with two local companies who are familiar with the region and who will also coordinate the work on site.

They would know the residents and know where support is currently needed.

"Without them it would be even more chaotic there," says Markus Eirenschmalz.

There are also several support platforms, but it is difficult to get those responsible and concrete information, says Eirenschmalz.

In any case, the aid from the Schongau region is on the way.

Other people from the Weilheim-Schongau district have already helped in the flood area.

Including the THW, a Peitinger and two women from Lechrain.
