Norberto Oyarbide, who died on Wednesday, was a federal judge for 22 years and had a four-decade career in the Judiciary.

Haunted by requests for impeachment, on April 7, 2016, he resigned

as a magistrate of the federal courts of Comodoro Py.

Questioned like few others, that day he decided to step aside half an hour after a draft accusatory opinion was known against him in the Council of the Magistracy to take him to political trial for his performance in the Propyme case and that the then representative of the Executive Power in the organism, Juan Bautista Mahiques, expressly endorsed.

At that time, two o'clock in the afternoon, Mahiques informed the other members of the Discipline and Indictment Commission that he had not received any communication to the Ministry of Justice about the magistrate's resignation.

Half an hour later, it was Oyarbide himself who entered the headquarters of the judicial portfolio, in the heart of the City, to hand his resignation to Minister Germán Garavano, who an hour before, in a ceremony in court, was also asked about the issue and said that until that moment there had been no resignation proposed.

How and why Oyarbide resigned from his position as federal judge

Oyarbide's resignation went through a brief ministerial procedure and became effective on April 13, when then-President Mauricio Macri accepted it with harsh words.

"Today I accepted the resignation of Norberto Oyarbide as federal judge. I do it with a double feeling: on the one hand I am relieved because we are taking a step to improve the Justice of our country. Knowing that this man is not going to fail any more should give us a great tranquility to all, "said Macri that day in a post on social networks.

"On the other hand, I share the feeling of many of the desire for him to go through the impeachment process that we have been demanding for a long time. The problem is that we know that this is a long process with an uncertain outcome, while preserving his powers preventing that They investigate him judicially, and he is also still a judge. That is why I decided to take this step, "he added.

With the acceptance of the resignation, all the impeachment requests against Oyarbide were automatically dropped, because he was no longer a judge.

The one that finally caused his resignation is related to the raid that he admitted to having stopped a financial company in December 2013, at the request of a Kirchner official who called him by phone.

This is Carlos Liuzzi, then undersecretary of Legal and Technical of the Presidency, whom he had previously dismissed in a complaint for illicit enrichment.

Oyarbide himself later confirmed to the press at the door of his house his resignation from his position and

when asked if he regretted anything, he said: "No."

The judge had already drawn impeachment in the Senate in 2001 by

the scandal of the brothel Spartacus,

and the new that threatened at the time of his resignation, he

still had to pass the request of the committee and the plenary of the Council of the Magistracy, before reaching the suspension and the Jury of Prosecution.

From the moment of his resignation, Oyarbide enjoyed the special retirement of the Judicial Power.
