Sabbagh: There is a tampering with the texts of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the politicization of the chemical file in Syria

Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that Western countries have turned the Security Council into a means to defame Syria by politicizing technical issues and questioning its cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, making false accusations and spreading lies against it.

During a session of the UN Security Council, Sabbagh stated that Syria has repeatedly expressed its strong condemnation of the use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhere and under any circumstances, and its affirmation that it no longer possesses any type of these weapons.

Sabbagh added: The US administration continues its aggressive approach by using its various puppet tools to wage a fierce war against the Syrian people at all levels.

Sabbagh said: Syria regrets that some countries questioned its cooperation with the embargo organization and presented an incorrect image through its politicized exploitation of procedural and technical aspects.

Sabbagh indicated that there is manipulation of the texts of the Chemical Weapons Convention, the politicization of the chemical file in Syria, and the lack of credibility of the reports issued on it.
