The pedestrian bridge over the B472 in Bad Tölz was once intended as a temporary solution.

Now it is being replaced.

But the new bridge will not last either.

Bad Tölz

- The state building authority is now tackling two construction measures that have been under discussion for a long time on the B472 in Bad Tölz.

The pedestrian bridge over the B472 at the level of Gaißacher Straße will soon be replaced.

Here the old saying “nothing is more permanent than a temporary solution” has come true.

The existing bridge originally dates from the 1990s as a wooden structure, was supplemented by a steel structure in 2006 and renovated in 2017.

The bridge was only intended for a transitional period.

Meanwhile, the annual safety check has shown that the bridge is no longer safe enough because of rust, explains German Abenthum from the State Building Authority.

It should therefore be replaced: with a new temporary arrangement that is intended to last ten to twelve years.

According to Abenthum, a permanent construction is not possible because of "difficult coordination" when purchasing the land.

In addition, it is not yet clear whether the section of the B472 to the Moraltverteiler will be expanded to three or four lanes after the construction of the north spade.

The new bridge model served as a military auxiliary bridge during the Cold War

According to Abenthum, a so-called Bailey Bridge is now being erected about 30 meters from the current pedestrian bridge.

These were originally military makeshift bridges made of steel that were held in place during the Cold War, for example to replace a bridge at short notice in the event of a detonation.

According to the building authorities, the construction of the new bridge will begin on September 20th and will probably last until mid-November.

That will not be associated with traffic restrictions, says Abenthum.

A half-sided blockage of the B472 is necessary in advance from Monday, September 6th to Friday, September 10th, because space has to be created by felling trees.

According to nature conservation law, felling is not actually allowed at this time of the year.

However, the state building authority announces that the clearing will take place in coordination with the lower nature conservation authority and in the presence of an ecological construction supervisor.

"Significant and lasting damage to fauna and flora is not to be expected," assures the authority.

At the B472 driveway at the former "greenhouse" in Bad Tölz, renovation is to begin in autumn.

A few kilometers further on the B472 will probably be built soon.

The redesign of the accident-prone B472 junction at the former “greenhouse” is to be tackled this autumn.

The left-turn traffic coming from Benediktbeurer Straße in the direction of Bad Tölz is to be passed through an underpass under the main road, so that there is no dangerous left turning.

According to department head Martin Herda, the construction companies' offers received as part of the tender were opened in the State Building Authority on Wednesday.

Once it has been determined who will be the most economical provider, work could possibly start this month.
