Arrest of a figure of Marseille narco-banditry in Seine-et-Marne

Gérald Darmanin welcomed the arrest of one of the "most wanted fugitives in France", on the run after being sentenced in January to 30 years of criminal imprisonment.


Kamel Meziani, a figure in Marseille narco-banditry, was arrested at the end of August in Seine-et-Marne, AFP learned on Friday (September 3) from sources close to the investigation.

Kamel Meziani, suspected of being one of the bosses of the drug trafficking network of the Cité des Oliviers in Marseille, was sentenced in January, while he was on the run, to 30 years of criminal imprisonment for the death of young people men in a settling of scores in 2016. He was suspected of having supplied weapons to two of his lieutenants.

The Marseille prosecutor's office announced the arrest in Fleury-en-Bière, in Seine-et-Marne, "

of a man known for his belonging to Marseille narco-banditism and sentenced by the Marseille criminal court to the penalty of 14 years of imprisonment for drug trafficking and, by default, to 30 years of criminal imprisonment by the Assize Court of Bouches-du-Rhône for intentional homicide in an organized gang

Following this arrest, investigators from the Marseille judicial police "

proceeded to arrest several people suspected of being involved in one of the deadly events which have been opposing for several weeks several teams of drug traffickers

Since the start of the year, 15 people have died in settlements linked to drug trafficking in the Bouches-du-Rhône. A figure, however, lower at this stage than in 2016 when 29 people were killed. Marseille has been particularly affected over the past two months by these assassinations. Drug trafficking generates considerable sums, up to 80,000 euros per day in the City of Olives, fueling greed and turf wars.
