The number of business start-ups in online sales and home delivery increased sharply in 2020, taking advantage of the health crisis, INSEE reported on Friday.
In online sales, they increased by 57% to 33,000 companies created, specifies the National Institute of Statistics, recalling that the development of this sector does not date from the health crisis but that it had already recorded an annual increase. average of 35% between 2017 and 2019.

The boom was particularly marked between May and December 2020, with 70% more creations compared to the same period in 2019.
The first item of business creation in France last year concerns "
other postal and courier activities
", according to the nomenclature of the institute, which explains that "
it is home delivery
" and in particular of meal delivery.
There were 87,900 such creations last year, an increase of 46% over one year.
In 97% of cases, they are self-employed.
In addition, business start-ups in electrical installation work increased by 18%, with those specializing in fiber optic installation almost doubling with + 91%.
Real estate agencies have also benefited from the crisis with the number of creations up 14% over the year.

Another booming sector in 2020, “
artistic creation activities in the plastic arts
