Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet named his “future team” on Friday for the final spurt of the election campaign.
It is important to him that the CDU is visible as a team, said Laschet.
He and his team want to connect different wings of the Union: the Christian-social, the liberal and the conservative.
At the presentation in the Konrad Adenauer House in Berlin, Laschet asked the individual team members to join him on stage.
The team includes Friedrich Merz, Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär (CSU), the terrorism expert Peter Neumann and Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Education Karin Prien, the Saxon Minister of Education and Culture Barbara Klepsch, CDU Vizin Silvia Breher, the deputy Union parliamentary group leader Andreas Jung and the Bundestag candidate and music manager Joe Chialo (all CDU).
Laschet praised Friedrich Merz as "one of the most prominent financial and economic politicians".
Merz spoke of wanting to "unleash the country" and create a "new economic dynamic".
The deputy Union parliamentary group leader Andreas Jung should be primarily responsible for the issue of climate protection.
He wanted to accelerate climate protection, said Jung.
Dorothee Bär, currently Digital Minister of State, is there from the CSU.
She spoke briefly about wanting to shape an "unleashing decade" with a view to digital development.
The security expert Peter Neumann from King's College in London is supposed to help Armin Laschet on the subject of internal security and the fight against terrorism.
Recently, in view of the bad personal poll results of the Union Chancellor candidate, the pressure within the party increased that Laschet should present himself with a team in order to make the breadth of the Union clear.
