Austria requires some travelers to register electronically.
You can find out when and whether this also applies to German holidaymakers here.
A few months ago, Austria * required people entering the country to register electronically or to do so-called pre-travel clearance.
The form is still available despite numerous relaxations that are now in force - however, not everyone has to fill it out for a long time.
Who has to fill out the Austrian entry form?
In general, registration for pre-travel clearance is mandatory. However, there is an
exception for people who
regularly enter
from a state or area in Appendix 1
and have only stayed in a state or area in Appendix 1 in the past ten days. Another prerequisite is that the travelers have
proof of the 3-G rule
- they must be vaccinated, recovered or tested. Germany currently belongs to a country in Annex 1, which is why electronic registration is not necessary.
The situation is different for people who enter from a country or area in Appendix 2 or who have stayed in such an area. They are required to register electronically. This currently affects the
countries classified
as
virus variant areas
, Botswana, Brazil, Eswatini, India, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Uruguay and the United Kingdom. According to the Federal Foreign Office, exceptions can also apply here for Austrian nationals or EU citizens.
In the case of a
previous stay from other countries
, travelers must provide evidence in accordance with the 3-G rule and register via the pre-travel clearance.
There is also a ten-day quarantine requirement, with the option of “testing yourself” after five days.
However, there is an exception for vaccinated persons with a vaccination certificate or a medical certificate of full immunization - they do not have to register and do not have to go into quarantine.
Pre-travel clearance may take place
a maximum of 72 hours before entry
.
Commuters have to renew them every 28 days.
Anyone entering from an area in Appendix 1 but only taking a test after entering Austria must also register online in advance.

Austria: Germans must observe these entry rules
There is no obligation to register electronically for those arriving from Germany, but here, too, “proof of a low epidemiological risk” is
required
- that is,
proof within the meaning of the 3-G rule
.
Austria accepts a valid certificate or a medical certificate for a negative corona test.
Antigen tests that are not older than 48 hours and PCR tests that are not more than 72 hours ago are permitted.
Proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or proof of antibodies is also recognized.
For minors up to the age of 12, the same requirements and legal consequences apply as for the adult under whose supervision they enter - with the exception of the mandatory test.
