The Dorfen concept for "flash flood risk management" has been a done deal since 2018 - but is not yet available.
With the floods on Monday, it would have been valuable.

- The Dorfen flood consultant Gerald Forstmaier is "completely shocked by the intensity, the force and the destructive power of the floods", according to the GAL city council in a press release on the floods on Monday.
The city of Dorfen cannot pay for any damage caused, but has a duty to create living conditions in which citizens can largely live safely.
It is now "high time to deal with the subject of 'flood protection for flash floods', and in particular precautionary and solution concepts for the settlement area in Oberdorfen, in the city council and to implement them promptly".
The GAL parliamentary group last recalled the “Concept for municipal flash flood risk management”, which had already been adopted in 2018, in July.
“The heavy rain map will be presented to the Environment and Climate Committee by October at the latest,” promised Mayor Heinz Grundner (CSU).
Forstmaier is now arguing again for the urgency: "There are individual rain events and flash floods that humans will never be able to predict and control." However, protective measures could be developed.
With the rapidly advancing climate change, such extreme events would certainly increase.
The flood officer says to the many helpers "a big, big thank you for this selfless commitment and willingness to help" .. In the Am Seebach settlement in Oberdorfen, he said refrigerators were floating in the basements and door frames were torn out by the masses of water. Desperate residents would have lost memorabilia forever in the floods and suffered great damage. Due to the speed with which the basement rooms were flooded up to the ceiling, one could speak of luck that no one drowned.
