Which parties agree with your stance on socio-political issues?

The new social O-Mat provides answers to these questions.

Berlin - The federal election in 2021 is approaching.

There are guidelines for voters who do not yet know which party to vote for.

In addition to the Wahl-O-Mat of the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the Social-O-Mat of the Diakonie Deutschland can be questioned.

The Sozial-O-Mat works in a similar way to Wahl-O-Mat, but has its focus on socio-political content.

Users can compare their points of view on the issues of work, health, family and children as well as migration with the positions of the parties represented in the Bundestag CDU / CSU, SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, Die Linke, FDP and AfD.

Social-O-Mat for Bundestag election: What position do the parties take on basic income, pensions and the minimum wage?

For each of the four subject areas, five theses must be answered with “I agree”, “I do not agree”, “neutral”. "Skip thesis" is also possible. For example, “An unconditional basic income is unjust because it disadvantages people who work”, “For a good pension, people should work longer: The retirement age should be increased in line with demographic changes” or “Those who work eight hours a day , must be able to live without additional support - therefore the minimum wage must be increased significantly ”for assessment.

The Social-O-Mat then shows the percentage agreement with the respective election manifestos of the parties.

You can also display the parties' attitudes to the individual questions as well as the substantive justification for the respective point of view.

Exemplary stories from practice also show what effects the various political approaches have on those affected.

Sozial-O-Mat for Bundestag election: Tool is politically neutral

"Only those who vote will have a say in our common future in Germany," says Diakonie President Ulrich Lilie, explaining the development of the tool. “The setting of the course in social and health policy is particularly important, not least against the background of the stresses caused by the corona pandemic. How do we want to cope with the consequences of the pandemic? How can everyone be able to participate in society and how can rapid social change be shaped? The Sozial-O-Mat offers an initial orientation and shows the importance of central questions of social policy and social coexistence in a coming government and in parliament. "

Diakonie already offered the Sozial-O-Mat for the 2017 Bundestag elections and the 2019 European elections.

The tool is politically neutral and the results are not evaluated centrally.
