Investigation of the attack during the riots on the Gaza border, in which the fighter was shot at close range: The forces were not prepared for a scenario where a terrorist would approach the fence and shoot at the forces through the slits • Border Police officials: Bar-El

Senior Border Police officials believe that a commendation should be given to the late Sgt. Bar-El Hadaria Shmueli, who fell from a short-range terrorist in the northern Gaza Strip last month.

Sources familiar with the fighter's performance, who served as a sniper of the Border Police's undercover unit, claim in closed conversations: "Bar-El fought like a lion until the last minute, and if he had met face to face with the terrorist who shot him - the result would have been different.

He acted resolutely in a complex and dangerous event, and therefore he would have deserved a salute, if he were alive, and he deserves a salute even after his death. "

Meanwhile, Israel Today received parts of the investigation into the incident, which will probably be presented today to the parents of the late Hadaria Shmueli. Under the auspices of the rioters - and shoot at IDF fighters through the firing slits in the fence.

The Border Police's undercover unit is stationed by IDF commanders in charge of the Gaza Strip on the front line, and provides protection to nearby Israeli localities.

The investigation shows that the unit's fighters were held on Thursday two weeks ago for rioting events.

The following Saturday, in parallel with the riots on the fence, an undercover force faced an attempted infiltration by a Hamas terrorist.

At the end of about 40 minutes of chase, the force returned to deal with the incidents of disturbances on the fence to contain them, as has happened several times in the last two years.

Snipers were stationed at positions a few dozen meters from the fence, firing accurate fire at dozens of Palestinians who had climbed it.

The investigation shows that until the shooting at the late Bar-El Hadaria Shmueli, no concrete intelligence was received that a terrorist might reach the fence under the auspices of the rioters and carry out an attack.

The investigation also revealed that the force stationed in front of the fence could spot the rioters up to a distance of about 100 meters, and as the rioters approached the fence, the forces' line of sight decreased and the shooting at the rioters was carried out through special firing slits. The investigation reveals that snipers made observations of the strip area from armored jeeps. As the vehicles approached the firing slits, the snipers would leap out of them, identify the danger and shoot at it, closing the slitting and returning to the jeep. At first, the fighters tried to repel the rioters from stationary positions from a distance of about 60 meters and hit about seven of them. When the force realized that dozens of rioters were "jumping" near the fence, the activity against them was carried out tactically and quickly through the firing slits. The investigation also shows that the late Hadaria Shmueli managed to hit five terrorists before he was shot.

The investigation estimates that a terrorist took the opportunity when the late Hadaria Shmueli tried to close the slit from which he fired and return to the jeep. One of the three bullets fired at him hit him and injured him. It was a Palestinian sniper's shot or a shot at a slingshot, and only after it became clear that a gun had been fired from the slit did one of the forces break into the Palestinian side of the fence, open fire at the rioters and drive them away.

The investigation also dealt with an attempt to snatch the weapon of one of the fighters, from which it appears that the move failed following a shot fired by the fighter from his pistol.
