New York, SANA-Iran stressed the need to stop the path that weakens the strength of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the status of the OPCW

New York-Sana

Iran stressed the need to stop the path that weakens the strength of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the status of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons through the politicization adopted by some countries towards certain files, because this halt serves the treaty, the organization, the rule of law and the maintenance of international peace and security.

In her speech during a session of the Security Council, the Ambassador and Assistant Representative of Iran to the United Nations, Zahra Ershadi, praised the serious efforts of the Syrian government in implementing its obligations under the agreement, indicating that Syria’s fulfillment of its obligations resulting from its accession to this agreement within the shortest possible period of time and in exceptional circumstances is an indication of the importance of the efforts made. In this regard, she expressed regret that some countries have politicized the chemical file in Syria.

Irshadi also welcomed Syria's submission of its 93rd monthly report on activities related to the destruction of chemical weapons and their production facilities, and the holding of the 25th round of consultations with the declaration's evaluation team during next October.

And Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, confirmed yesterday that some Western countries have turned the Security Council into a platform for spreading lies against Syria regarding its cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, stressing that Syria voluntarily joined the embargo agreement and fulfilled, during a record period, all the obligations resulting from this accession. And it no longer possesses any of these weapons, and yet it is subjected to campaigns of false and baseless accusations about cases of alleged use of chemical weapons with the aim of diverting the attention of the international community from the use of these weapons by terrorist organizations and continuing to provide protection and care for them.

Irshaidi renewed the call for the full and effective implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, without discrimination. .
