"

There will be no technical control as it was envisaged

", declared Jean-Baptiste Djebbari on

RMC

.

We're going to completely overhaul it, we're going to rethink the system.

(...) We are going to do it differently,

”he added.

The minister gathered the biker federations on Friday in order to "

co-construct an alternative device

", according to a press release from the ministry.

"

The objective is to do better for simpler

"

Required by the European Union since 2014 to improve road safety, protect the environment and limit noise pollution, the technical control of motorized two-wheelers is already applied in many neighboring countries. Most European countries already have it in place, according to the European Federation of Motorcycle Associations. Finland, Ireland and the Netherlands have adopted alternative measures to reduce the number of accidents, which have enabled them to bypass it.

"

The objective is to do better for simpler purposes,

" said Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, noting that the measure was dictated by "

an old

European

directive

". New proposals should be made “

in the coming weeks

” on three themes: strengthening road safety through “

training

” and “

improving roads

”, experimenting with sound radars against exhaust pipes. tampered with, and a two-wheeler conversion bonus project to encourage the purchase of less polluting vehicles. "

Together, we will respond to the challenges of road safety, the fight against noise pollution and the protection of the environment through a supportive and non-punitive incentive policy

”, underlined Jean-Baptiste Djebbari in the press release.

The biennial technical control had been established by decree on August 11 for a gradual entry into force from 2023. It was to extend to all motorized vehicles with two, three and four wheels, 50 cm3 scooters and cars without a license included. .

This measure, published in the Official Journal in the heart of the summer, had provoked the discontent of the biker federations.
