Translation: an act of intercultural communication

In a press release from the OIF, the President of the Jury, Ms. Fayza El Qasem, explains that

“the original text presented several challenges in terms of both form and content. Taking the form of an investigation, it mixes collective history with individual history and undertakes a rereading of Egypt in the days of Nasserism. The translator, Richard Jacquemond, perceived the inventiveness of the text, seized the nuances in situation in order to capture what is said outside the words and successfully reproduced the multiple registers of the language. He thus affirms the role of translation as an act of intercultural communication and gives us to read a work which has been distinguished in the Arab world ”

.

Richard Jacquemond is professor (CE) of modern Arabic language and literature, Department of Middle Eastern Studies, UFR Arts, Letters, Languages and Human Sciences, University of Aix-Marseille.

He is also Director of the Institute for Studies and Research on the Arab and Muslim Worlds (IREMAM), Mediterranean House of Human Sciences, in Aix-en-Provence.
