Terrorism in New Zealand: Police kill ISIS supporter stabbing people in supermarket (Twitter)
At least six people were injured today (Friday) in a stabbing attack at an Auckland supermarket.
The terrorist, a Sri Lankan citizen who was under surveillance by New Zealand authorities, was shot and killed on the spot.
Emergency services said that of the six injured, three were in critical condition, one in critical condition and one in moderate condition.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden said "a violent extremist has carried out a terrorist attack against innocent New Zealand citizens".
She said the attacker had lived in the country for the past decade and had been under surveillance for about five years.
She added that he was killed within a minute of the start of the attack and that he was influenced by ISIS ideology.
"It was an act of hatred, it was wrong," Arden said.
"It was committed by an individual, not by religion. He alone bears responsibility for these acts."
