But you won't be able to just harvest ...

September: what are the seasonal vegetables and fruits?
This month in the garden: what to plant, sow or harvest in September?
What works in your garden?
It will be necessary to renew the mulching of your beds, plants and shrubs, in order to preserve, as much as possible, the humidity in the soil.
"Mulching also makes it possible to prevent the warming of the soil which can sometimes burn the leaves and the crown of the plants"
, explains Brigitte Lapouge-Déjean.
Be careful, if you use straw, which is greedy in nitrogen, to cover the base of young trees, "place dry nettles between the soil and the surface covered by the mulch to compensate for this loss of nitrogen", warns Éric Dumont.

What to sow in summer?
In the vegetable garden
chicory,
green beans,
lettuce
fall beets,
escaroles,
radish
winter turnips,
parsley,
carrots,
leeks ...
What to harvest in summer?
You can harvest in your vegetable garden and in your orchard:
tomatoes,
young carrots,
radish,
lettuce,
zucchini,
green beans,
garlic,
onions,
shallots,
apricots,
peaches,
plums ...
When and how to water your plants?
Summer is also the time for watering.
The potted plants being the most greedy, they will have to be watered daily.
For the vegetable garden,
"it is better to water generously twice a week than a little bit each day
," recommends Pascal Aspe.
The water thus penetrates to the roots.
With 15 liters per m2, the equivalent of a large watering can, you promote deep rooting and the autonomy of the plant.
"
Perennials in the ground and mulched can withstand only one watering per week, according to Brigitte Lapouge-Déjean.
Mediterranean flora, such as rosemary or lavender, and grasses last even longer.
Fruit trees
“only need to be watered during their first two to three years, except in the event of extreme heat over a long period,”
indicates Éric Dumont.
The pace will be more sustained during the first year: every 15 days, twice 10 liters of water per tree, 10 minutes apart.
"
When a tree grows more than 40 cm per year, it no longer needs to be watered.
Don't wait, however, until its leaves are at half mast.
To protect your older fruit trees from the heat, spray white clay on the trunk.
This barrier, which also tends to ward off insects, will reduce the effects of the sun.
“It is very effective for plum, cherry and pear,”
explains Éric Dumont.
Take good care of your fruit trees
If the tree suffers from a fungal disease (peach
leaf
curl, apricot or cherry blossom blight, etc.),
"we must already repair the visual damage by cutting the dry branches and leaves that show advanced symptoms,"
advises the nurseryman, specialist in fruit trees, Éric Dumont.
And above all, do not recycle them in the orchard, nor put them in the compost.
Then spray a decoction or manure of horsetail on the leaves every 15 days.
This will prevent the contaminated part from gaining ground.
If the tree is infested with aphids, spray black soap mixed with oil or pyrethrum in the morning.
"
In an ornamental garden and vegetable patch, before watering, scrape the soil 5 to 10 cm under the mulch.
No water is needed if the soil is wet: too much could rot the root system. Water preferably in the morning or evening. In full sun, it is counterproductive because of evaporation. Automatic watering with a timer will preserve your harvest when you go on vacation. A humidity sensor will prevent the system from activating when it is raining.
