According to the action alliance, around 350 initiatives are taking part in the protest.
These include the German Trade Union Federation (DGB), the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband, the climate movement “Fridays for Future” and the Berlin tenants' association.
The US whistleblower and former CIA employee Edward Snowden is said to speak to the demonstrators via video switch, according to the organizers.
The demonstration begins at 1 p.m. with a kick-off rally in the area of Straße des 17. Juni, the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz.
