What about the swollen animal carcass that a photographer discovered in early August in the Schwarzlaichmoor on Hohenpeißenberger Flur?

Not only the Schongau police are faced with a mystery.

Hohenpeißenberg - Actually, the retired police officer Walter Füssl only wanted to take a few days vacation in his former home and take many beautiful photos home with him.

But on his photo tour in the Schwarzlaichmoor, which he undertook on August 6th, he made such a gruesome find that the pictures of it still do not let him go.

As already reported, the 64-year-old Austrian discovered a well-tied package in a pond in the Schwarzlaichmoor.

He feared bad things and called the police.

"I immediately thought that it could be a corpse," said the former policeman who used to work for the water police.

Even if it wasn't a dead person floating there in the pool, as it turned out, Füssl had discovered a well-wrapped dead animal body.

The find does not let go of the former police officer

However, the decomposition had progressed so far that, according to the police, it was no longer possible to determine which animal was swollen, wrapped in several blankets and tied up and disposed of in the black spawning bog. Judging by the size of the carcass, it could be a dog or a goat, said the head of the Schongau police station, Herbert Kieweg, after the gruesome find.

Füssl is still driving the parcel in the Schwarzlaichmoor.

"The type of packaging and the remote location is just very strange and I think there might be more to it," the former police officer wrote in an email to the editorial office.

He believes that it is possible that the animal and its owner were "disposed of" in the pond in the black spawning moor, but that so far only the dead body has appeared.

The person who sank the package in the bog actually wanted to prevent that, because it was weighed down with several paving stones.

Case would have to be investigated further

“On the basis of the body found, it should be possible to determine which animal is involved, despite severe decomposition,” writes the retired policeman.

In his opinion, the time at which the carcass was packed and thrown into the bog should be able to be determined on closer examination.

Then, according to Füssl, more targeted research could be carried out to determine whether a person has disappeared at that time.

"A dog is always an indirect witness and a danger, as it can draw attention to a crime scene, perpetrator or the location of an incident," writes the pensioner.

Therefore, he believes, this case should be investigated more closely, even if it is “only” a dead animal that has been found.

Memory of the bog body "Rosalinde" from Peiting

According to the evidence, there is no reason to do so, says Kieweg.

“There is no evidence to further examine the dead animal.” Because the carcass had already decayed so much after it had probably been lying in the water for years, the examinations were difficult: “There are no more traces to secure given. ”Nevertheless, the find raises questions that also leave Kieweg puzzled:“ The motive is completely a mystery to us.

What reason does someone have to do something like this? ”Normally, dead animals would be buried or burned.

“That is very, very extraordinary.

It remains dubious, ”says Kieweg.

On July 23, 1957, a dead body was discovered in the black spawning moor.

Samuel Gunsch, who worked at the Peiting peat factory, hit a heavy wooden box with his peat digger about 50 centimeters below the surface of the earth in the middle of the bog.

Inside it was a woman's body that was exceptionally well preserved, even for a bog body.

The bog body, which was given the name Rosalinde, became known as "Frau von Peiting".

The cause of death can no longer be clarified

Rosalinde wore a long, fine wool dress and knee-high leather boots. The site was only redefined in 2007 and it turned out that the wooden coffin was on the Hohenpeißenberg corridor. Since the woman's body was so well preserved, many conclusions could be drawn about its history. It is assumed that she lived in the 14th or 15th century and was between 20 and 30 years old. Despite its good state of preservation, all forensic medical examinations have so far provided no indication of how Rosalinde died. Because organ samples that had been taken earlier have disappeared, the cause of death will probably no longer be clarified.
