The Brazilian health authorities suspect that four players of the Argentine national team who act in England did not comply with the controls against Covid-19 to enter Brazil and, therefore, will open an investigation, a situation that occurs less than 24 hours after the crash due to the South American qualifying rounds, the São Paulo State Secretary of Health reported in a statement.
The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) of Brazil notified the Government of São Paulo to send health agents to the Marriott Hotel at Guarulhos international airport, where the Argentine team is housed, in order to determine whether Emiliano Martínez and Emiliano Buendía, from Aston Villa, and Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso, from Tottenham, entered the current regulations for people from England.
Initially a source had revealed to the Télam agency the start of the health investigation, but the case was officially confirmed in a statement.
"After the notification of the federal body, the Ministry of Health initiated an epidemiological and sanitary investigation and will raise for Anvisa to deliberate on the need to quarantine the athletes," says the official statement from the São Paulo government.
The statement said that Anvisa "is responsible for the surveillance at the airports that allowed 4 athletes from the Argentine National Team who act in the United Kingdom to pass through."
It is unknown for the moment if a report can veto the participation of the footballers in Sunday's game, especially since the training of those led by Lionel Scaloni is scheduled to start at 18:00 at the NeoQuimica Arena stadium, in Corinthians, in the Itaquera neighborhood, eastern area of the city of San Pablo.
The situation may have mitigating factors since Lo Celso, Martínez, Buendía and Romero left from England, but were in Caracas with the national team, in the 3-1 victory against Venezuela last Thursday.
According to resolution 655 of June 23, 2021 of the Presidency of the Republic, a traveler with "origin or passage through the United Kingdom, South Africa and India in the last 14 days, when entering Brazilian territory, must remain in quarantine for 14 days".
The quarantine and a series of procedures against the pandemic that could affect their work was the reason why eleven players from the Brazilian team were vetoed by their clubs to participate in the qualifying rounds.
