Lieutenant Colonel Pedro Enrique Pérez, of the Colombian Army, would have been killed in captivity in Venezuelan territory, the command of this military force reported this Friday in a statement.
The institution says that it bases its information on "highly credible sources" and indicates that the relatives have already been informed.
The Army statement indicates that Pérez had been kidnapped in April by a "residual armed group" in Saravena, in the Arauca department, Colombia.
It is added that the officer was later taken to Venezuela, where he was being held in captivity.
The Colombian military authorities call the dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) a "residual armed group" that did not adhere to the peace accords between the government and the now demobilized guerrilla.

On August 25, the Noticias Saravena portal published a video in which Lieutenant Colonel Pérez could be seen alive.
That video, according to the portal, would have been sent by Pérez's captors to his relatives and the Army, although it was not clear from when the recording was dated.
