Coming Soon: Smart Counter In Taxis - This Is How It Will Work Israel today

2021-09-04T20:48:08.405Z

About 25,000 taxis will be equipped with a meter that will allow you to pay on credit, send an invoice and make a shared trip

The payments revolution is also reaching taxis in the country:

about 25,000 taxis will be upgraded with smart meters that can be remotely controlled and allow payment on credit.

The new meters will also make it possible to make collaborative trips in taxis and split invoices, remotely update tariffs and save travel data on the server and meter.

In accordance with the Ministry of Transportation's regulation set in 2020, the installation of smart meters is a condition for granting a vehicle license for a taxi and passing the licensing test.

The date of its implementation is set for the end of July and it has been extended until the end of the year.

With the introduction of the EMV standard, which stipulates that credit clearing will be done by reading a smart chip in the credit cards while attaching the card or inserting it into the terminal and entering a secret code, an adjustment was required for the continued debiting of credit on taxis.

These days, Nakes provides the first smart terminals in taxis.

The company, which develops and provides advanced payment and management solutions to retailers, is a provider of solutions, IoT payment and management systems for retailers and vending machine operators.

The company currently provides solutions for almost 450,000 machines worldwide.

The smart meter transmits the billing amount to the terminal that executes the transaction and returns a performance confirmation to the meter so that the transaction amount in the taxi cannot be changed.

In addition, the payment platform makes it possible to pass tips to the taxi driver, rate the level of service on the ride and even send a digital receipt by text message to the customer.

Yossi Avital, CEO of the retail division at Nakes, explained: "We provide a technological solution through a link between the meter and a small and easy-to-use payment terminal. "Beyond that, we provide a different service experience for a taxi passenger, local or tourist, and deploy several secure and convenient payment options at the same time. The taxi driver has the option to receive additional means of payment along with access to reports and information from the terminal, which he did not have before."
