Iran is ready for new nuclear talks, according to President Ebrahim Raisi, but not while the West is exerting pressure.
Talks are planned, said Raisi on state television on Saturday.
"We want targeted negotiations so that the sanctions against the Iranian people can be lifted."
So far, US President Joe Biden has apparently followed the same "dead end policy" as his predecessor Donald Trump.
Instead, Washington must "show respect to Iran in its statements and behavior," said the State Department's statement.
Raisi had called for an end to US measures after he took office in early August.
Since April attempts have been made to revive the nuclear deal, which is supposed to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons.
Under President Donald Trump, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and imposed sanctions on the country.
Iran then began to violate the terms of the agreement.
Under President Joe Biden, the United States has shown itself to be open to a new version of the agreement.
Iran claims that its nuclear program is peaceful.
The nuclear regulator had been informed of its activities and its departure from the 2015 agreement would be reversed - but only if the United States reverted to the agreement and lifted the sanctions.
