The Hong Kong government plans to relax the threshold for the introduction of overseas doctors. As the overall number of training places needs to be increased, when the regulations are passed, the Hong Kong government will establish a platform to discuss the training situation and the number of places with the Hospital Authority, the Department of Health, and the Medical Academy.
Chen Zhaoshi stated on the business program "Saturday of Political Economy" that the three major amendments to the "Doctor Registration Ordinance" were recently proposed because after three meetings of the Bills Committee of the Legislative Council, most members believed that the government's original plan was "too narrow." Chen Zhaoshi said that after relaxing the threshold, it will also ensure that local doctors' internships and specialist training will not be affected.
