A farmer from Wilzhofen would not take care of an injured cow.

The animal welfare organization PETA has now indicated this.

The veterinary office responded immediately.

Wilzhofen / Weilheim - A cow has been lying "completely exhausted" for days alone on a pasture near Wilzhofen - without water and weather protection.

This press release was sent out by the animal welfare organization PETA, combined with criticism of the farmer and the veterinary office.

The authority, however, gives the all-clear: Everything is fine, the cow is by no means neglected.

PETA files a criminal complaint with the Munich II public prosecutor's office

The cow has been in this predicament since August 22nd, although the veterinary office has been informed, writes the animal welfare organization. According to a witness who reported the case to PETA, the farmer tried to get the animal to stand by kicking the flank. Therefore, PETA filed a criminal complaint with the Munich II public prosecutor and demanded immediate help for the allegedly sick animal. The case only allows the conclusion "that in this case too the possible death of the animal is knowingly accepted in order to avoid additional costs", Lisa Kainz, an agricultural scientist at PETA, is quoted in the press release.

The veterinary office in Weilheim also confirms that the cow is sick - otherwise the assessments differ fundamentally.

As a request to the head of the authority, Jens Lewitzki, showed that the cow was inspected and spoken to the farmer concerned.

He had verifiably assured that the cow was being treated.

Veterinary office confirms injury - but also care for the cow

According to the veterinary office, the animal suffering from a tendon injury in the leg area is doing better again: the cow got up on its own during the first of several checks and stood on its own and moved freely in the pasture and feed and water without outside help be able to record.

"The care of the animal was comprehensibly ensured," said the authority in a statement.

The inspection did not reveal any violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

The condition of the animal corresponds to the current veterinary treatment.

Misconduct on the part of the farmer “could not be determined at any time,” says Lewitzki.

The veterinary office repeatedly receives complaints about animal husbandry. They are always followed up - “regardless of the person, rank and reputation of the person making the complaint and also whether that person has already made such unfounded complaints”, writes the authority in relation to the witness. The well-foundedness of these advertisements varies greatly and depends primarily on the amount of information and the species.

In rare cases, animal owners are convicted, mostly for violating the Animal Welfare Act. But not all complaints are justified. A few years ago, a woman complained that Highland cattle are kept on pasture in winter instead of in a warm stable. The veterinary office was able to reassure: the animals with the shaggy fur felt most at home there.
