Prof. Galia Rahav: "Believes that children under the age of 12 will be vaccinated by the end of the year" (Walla system!)

The vaccine against the corona virus will be opened to children under the age of 12 by the end of the year, Prof. Galia Rahav, director of the infectious diseases unit at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, said today (Saturday). At a "cultural" event in Be'er Sheva, she added that the last date she expects to lower the eligibility age is the beginning of 2022. At the same time, she said that it is too early to estimate how many additional vaccine doses will be required to succeed in the fight against the epidemic.

"I think the vaccination of children under the age of 12 is not far off. Pfizer is definitely making progress in its vaccination. I think it will be towards the end of the year or the beginning of next year," she said.

"It will take us some time to learn how many times we need to be vaccinated. For example, we started vaccinating children with chickenpox and we saw that it was not enough and we needed another one. For jaundice, hepatitis B, we learned that three vaccines are needed. "It will be like the flu that is needed every year, every six months. I really hope not. Maybe we will learn that the third booster they have just given will give a vaccine for a longer period. Time will tell."

Prof. Rahav added that she "must say that I am very disappointed with the treatment of the corona. Compared to the vaccine that made amazing strides - the treatment of the disease is quite on the face. There is no 'game changer' in the treatment. "I would not be surprised if in two months I say something else, and that is what happens all the time with corona treatments. But to say that I have a treatment that will heal a patient who comes to intensive care? There are a lot of question marks. What is the right treatment, what is the right soul."
