There was an exchange of views with prominent participants on the situation of children and adolescents in times of the pandemic at the AWO on Friday.

The SPD chairwoman Saskia Esken was a guest.

The constituency's direct candidate, Carmen Wegge, was also there.

- The most important question for many Saskia Esken came at the very end of a 90-minute conversation in the Zenja hall of the multi-generation house: “What is your dream coalition?” It was asked by Lennart Brückner, tenth grader at the Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium. She didn't answer Saskia Esken: “I didn't answer that question three times yesterday at Maybrit Illner. It's about the matter. ”But it was clear to her that the CDU / CSU could not go any further.

CSG student Lennart Brückner was invited to a conversation with Justus Germeier (11th grade, Gymnasium Gauting), also from Geisenbrunn, to talk about the experiences of students in the pandemic.

Their conclusion was clear: face-to-face teaching, even if it is alternating, is always preferable to distance learning.

The SPD chairman took all politics across the board to ensure this - but it could not be guaranteed.

At the beginning of the exchange, the focus was on the younger ones.

Martina Matern, head of the AWO daycare center at the Theresenschule, spoke of an extremely difficult time at the beginning of the pandemic.

For the educators, it was particularly demanding because they also got away from the fears and anger of their parents.

The children who were allowed to visit the after-school care center had gotten through the lockdown quite well.

It was worse for those who had to be looked after at home.

After the schools reopened, it was found that they could no longer adapt to their usual daily routine.

My own fears of infection would have topped the whole thing.

Martina Matern wanted from politics that schools and after-school care centers no longer close: “The children are better off with us.” In addition, tariff adjustments and better staffing are necessary.

Saskia Esken gave her and her colleague Kevin Stölzle, who described something similar, to understand that educators also need more than just appreciation. Better staffing is also absolutely necessary. To be honest, however, one also has to say: “Social workers, educators or teachers do not stand on the street waiting for their appointment.” There is simply a shortage in all social professions. The only solution is to make these jobs more attractive. Otherwise, society will have a huge problem in a few years.

The question of the technical equipment of the schools played an important role in the conversation with the high school students. It started with the air filters, which, from the point of view of the SPD parliamentary group leader and grammar school teacher Daniel Liebetruth, could make classroom teaching safer. Student Justus Germeier is also hoping for it - memories of the winter, when one sat in class with the windows open with hats and thick jackets, gave him this insight.
