A Syrian-Lebanese talks session was held in Damascus today, chaired by Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and for the Lebanese side, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Acting Foreign Affairs in the caretaker government, Zina Aker.
After the talks ended, the Secretary-General of the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council, Nasri Khoury, confirmed in a statement to reporters that Syria had agreed to the Lebanese side's request for assistance in passing Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity through Syrian territory, and confirmed its readiness to meet that.
Khoury said: We discussed the difficult situations the countries are going through, especially in the field of electricity and gas, and the Lebanese side requested the possibility of Syria's assistance to Lebanon in passing Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity through Syrian territory, and the Syrian side welcomed the request.
Khoury added: The two sides agreed to follow up the detailed technical procedures through a joint technical team to discuss issues related to technical matters in both countries.
Participating in the talks were on the Syrian side, Kenan Yaghi, Minister of Finance, Bassam Tohme, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Dr. Fadi El Khalil, Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, Ali Abdel Karim Ali, Syria's ambassador to Lebanon, and on the Lebanese side, Ghazi Wazni, Minister of Finance, Raymond Ghajar, Minister of Energy, and Major General Abbas Ibrahim, Director General of Security. The Lebanese General and Saad Zakhia, Lebanon's ambassador to Syria, in addition to the participation of the Secretary-General of the Syrian-Lebanese Supreme Council Nasri Khoury.
The Lebanese ministerial delegation headed by Aker arrived in Damascus this morning, where he was received by Minister Miqdad at the Jdeidet Yabous crossing on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
