Disney World appears to be a place of wonder, excitement, and magic.
But there is a secret side to Disney that he tries not to show.
The company once had a separate theme park on a private island called
Discovery Island
that focused on birds and wildlife.
It closed in 1999.
Today, the abandoned park remains guarded and no one is allowed to enter.
On the official Disney World map, there is a blank green mass in the middle of Bay Lake in Orlando, Florida.
The mysterious island is unmarked and
no one is allowed in, not guests or Disney employees

But many years ago, this unmarked island was actually another Disney amusement park called Discovery Island.
It mysteriously closed two decades ago.
For nearly 20 years, Discovery Island remained locked up, and people were barred from entering.
But a few years ago,

The park was closed in 1999,
Discovery Island originally opened in 1974 under its original name, Treasure Island.
The island had a pirate theme and was inspired by the Disney movie "Treasure Island."
In 1976, the park was renamed Discovery Island and was intended to be an eco-friendly and relaxing destination for viewing exotic birds and wildlife.
The park was touted as an alternative for families who needed a break from Disney's top attractions.
The main attraction of the park was its 150 birds.
From flamingos to cockatoos, the island was designed to be an avian paradise.
You had to take a boat from the mainland to get to Discovery Island and experience the wild birds.
But in 1999 he opened Animal Kingdom and that was a fatal wound for this island.
