The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of El Salvador authorized immediate presidential re-election, in a ruling released on Friday night.
The decision would allow incumbent President Nayib Bukele, who won the elections in 2019 and enjoys broad popular support according to various polls, to seek the presidency in the next elections in 2024.
Law approved to retire judges and prosecutors at age 60 in El Salvador
The president has not ruled publicly on the ruling.
