Canadian authorities announced that they have launched an investigation into
the death of
18-year-old
Mexican boxer Jeanette Zacarías Zapata
, who died on Thursday night as a result of the injuries she suffered on Saturday during a fight.

, the Minister of Public Security of the province of Quebec, declared this Friday that the Forensic Office is investigating the death of Zacarías Zapata after the fight held in Montreal on August 28 with the Québec boxer

The Forensic Office indicated in a statement that among its responsibilities is the investigation of deaths that occurred in Quebec
"in unclear or violent circumstances or when it occurs in a context of negligence
.
"
The institution said that the investigation "is very advanced" and that it is working on gathering "all the information it will need to shed light on the cause and circumstances of death."

Immediately after the suspension of the fight,
Zacarías Zapata began to suffer seizures
and was rushed to the Sacré-Coeur-de-Montreal hospital where he was placed in an induced coma.
On Thursday night, the company organizing the fight, Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), announced in a statement the death of Zacarías Zapata.
"It is with great sadness and torment that we have known, through a family representative, that Jeanette Zacarías Zapata died this afternoon," said GYM who
added that the boxer's husband, Jovanni Martínez, was with her at the time of his demise
