"Silent Water", director Tom McCarthy's new film ("Spotlight") starring Matt Damon, will open the Haifa Film Festival on Sukkot, September 19-28.
The film, which had its world premiere at the last Cannes Film Festival, is a suspense drama about a father who embarks on a journey to prove his daughter's innocence.
Other interesting films that will be screened at the Haifa Film Festival this year are Avi Nesher's new film, "The Picture of Victory", the documentary "Street Gang: How We Came to Sesame Street" about the creators of the mythological series, Pedro Almodóvar's short film "The Human Voice" starring Tilda Swinton. The acclaimed animated film "Wolfwalkers" which was nominated for an Oscar and more.
Other highlights of the rich and varied artistic program offered in Haifa include new films by renowned directors such as Nanny Morty, Hong Sang Soo, Paul Schroeder, Celine Siama, Zhang Yimu and Paul Verhoeven.
During the festival there will also be a tribute concert to the lovable composer Shehadeh Hanna, which will include special arrangements of the best works he has composed for films (such as "The Orchestra's Visit", "Lemon Tree", "Let There Be Morning" and more), and a festive screening of the new TV series Creator Hagai Levy with Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, who offers a new adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's masterpiece.
