Hai bites off the arm of surfers - rescuers speak of a "devastating morning on the beach"

A surfer was bitten by a shark off the coast of Australia.

Paramedics tried to save his life - in vain.

Sydney - A surfer was killed on the east coast of Australia after a shark attack.

A shark had bitten the man on the arm on Sunday morning on Emerald Beach and seriously injured.

Rescue workers couldn't do anything for him.

The surfer, who is said to have been between 20 and 29 years old, died on the beach from his injuries.

The man suffered a "significant injury to the arm".

Surfers and beach visitors had provided first aid on the beach after the shark attack, the rescue workers reported.

A rescue team was also on site.

Despite all their efforts, paramedics and helpers were unable to save the man's life.

“Unfortunately, the patient died on site,” tweeted NWS Ambulance.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Chris Wilson said on local media it was "devastating to everyone on the beach this morning".

The shark attack occurred shortly after 11 a.m. (local time) near Coffs Harbor, around 480 kilometers north of Sydney.

The beach is very popular with surfers.

Last year eight people were killed in fatal shark attacks in Australia - a sad record.

On average, the country recorded one fatal shark attack per year.

Two men (22 and 28 years old) survived a shark attack on the Great Barrier Reef last year, seriously injured.

The 28-year-old's foot was bitten off.

In French Polynesia a shark attacked a tourist (35) and disfigured her forever.
