Differences to Earth Hour in March
In contrast to the Earth Hour, when the light is reduced for one hour in March to remind people of the urgency of climate protection, the Earth Night specifically focuses on the subject of light pollution and thus the excessive use of artificial light at night.
“Our nights are getting brighter and brighter despite or precisely because of the LED.
And that not only harms the majority of living beings - above all the insects - but also pollutes the planet in the form of considerable CO2 emissions and high consumption of resources, ”said the municipality.
In addition, Earth Night is also about experiencing the night as something beautiful, which with the advent of electric light around 150 years ago is hardly possible anywhere in the world.
