The Labor Party has begun pressuring Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to promote the outline of egalitarian prayer at the Western Wall, in light of the Tishrei holidays. The outline, is intended to regulate prayer in a common space for Reform and Conservative currents, after so far the issue has provoked controversy.

Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai wrote a letter to Bennett this weekend, requesting that the issue of the Western Wall outline be raised at the next cabinet meeting. The chairman of the Constitution Committee, MK Gilad Karib, also asked the Prime Minister to hold a meeting with the leaders of the streams and Jewish organizations, as well as to appoint a contact person in the Prime Minister's Office to deal with current issues surrounding the Western Wall.

The outline of the Western Wall, which regulates egalitarian prayer for the Reform and Conservative currents in a common space, was approved by the Netanyahu government in 2016 but was frozen and canceled in 2017 in the face of pressure from the ultra-Orthodox factions.

As part of the coalition agreements for the formation of the Bennett-Lapid government, it was agreed to work for its renewal, and the Labor Party is using the Tishrei holidays to try to expedite the proceedings.

Minister Nachman Shai said that "the excitement and sanctity on the eve of Rosh Hashanah and the Tishrei holidays is incomplete. A long and precious time has passed without a unified outline, equal and fair to all worshipers, men and women, who come to the Western Wall." He further emphasized that the Western Wall is the house of prayer of the entire Jewish people. "The Israeli government has a responsibility to immediately ensure the right to equal prayer in the southern plaza."

MK Karib, former head of the Reform Movement in Israel, said that "unfortunately, in recent years there has been a complete disconnect between the Prime Minister's Office in charge of the site and the partners in the layout - the leadership of the movements and organizations representing the users." Karib asked Bennett to hold a discussion led by him regarding the restart of the Western Wall layout, to hold a meeting with the leaders of the streams and organizations, and to order the appointment of a contact in the Prime Minister's Office for the Ezrat Israel plaza. Until the outline of the Western Wall is fully implemented.

Prime Minister Bennett himself addressed the issue of the outline of the Western Wall over the weekend in a conversation with Jewish leaders who are members of the Conference of Presidents.

According to a report on the Forward website, Bennett signaled that the government would start addressing the issue after the budget transfer in the second and third readings and promised that then "we will be able to deal with the more complex issues."
