Hurricane Ida left a trail of devastation in parts of the United States.

After the devastating floods caused by the storm, US President Joe Biden wants to get an idea of the damage in the coming days.

The White House announced that Biden will travel to Manville, New Jersey and the New York borough of Queens on Tuesday.

In New York, with eleven deaths in flooded basement apartments alone, the disastrous housing situation for poorer people due to the high rents in the city is being discussed.

47 people died in the floods in the metropolis and in the region.

Biden had already visited the state of Louisiana on Friday, where "Ida" first encountered land and caused severe damage.

He called for a joint fight against climate change, which is leading to an increase in serious natural disasters.

During his visit to the southern storm areas, the US President also promised help from the federal government.

"I know you are suffering," he said Friday in LaPlace, near New Orleans, Louisiana.

"I want you to know: we will be there for you." Political motives should not play a role in disaster relief and reconstruction.

“It's not about whether you're a Democrat or a Republican.

We're Americans and we'll get through this together. "

Biden sees further evidence of the climate crisis

Biden saw the hurricane in the south, the floods in the northeast and the current forest fires in the western United States as further evidence that the climate crisis has begun.

He warned that storms would become even more violent and frequent in the future.

The infrastructure, which is ailing in many places in the USA, must be adapted to this development.

Biden called on the Congress to pass appropriate laws and make funds available for infrastructure expansion.

The democrat has made the fight against climate change one of his most important goals.

"Ida" hit the coast southwest of New Orleans last Sunday as a force four (of five) hurricane and caused massive damage.

At least 13 people were killed in the hurricane in Louisiana and the neighboring state of Mississippi.

There were power outages in hundreds of thousands of households.

Then the storm weakened overland and moved on to the northeast.

There, heavy rains and catastrophic floods occurred in the metropolis of New York and in several states.

Dozens of people were killed in the process.
