INTERVIEW - The national anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-François Ricard describes the stakes of this historic trial.


LE FIGARO.- What will be the specificities of the trial of the attacks of November 13, 2015?

Jean-François RICARD.-

They are part of the flow of a massive judgment phase of the terrorist attacks that took place between 2014 and 2017. With 43 assize trials in two years, it is now a dynamic that the national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office knows well.

On the other hand, this trial includes an extraordinary character which is due to three aspects.

First, the number of people killed, 130, as well as the colossal number of victims: more than 1,400 at the Bataclan, at least 320 on the terraces and more than 130 at the Stade de France.

To date, there are 1,800 declared civil parties and 330 lawyers.

Then, the extent of the investigations carried out.

And finally, the duration of this trial, eight and a half months.

By way of comparison, that of the January 2015 attacks lasted three months, with interruptions.

Two years of preparation were necessary for the organization of a trial that we absolutely wanted to hold
