A still very high threat
The figures are there to prove that the Islamist terrorist threat is more present than ever. Since 2017, 36 attacks have been thwarted in France. But the terrorists have continued to strike, with in the last twelve months, four attacks in Paris, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, Nice and Rambouillet. And the “breeding ground” of individuals likely to take action remains very extensive. The file of alerts for the prevention of terrorist radicalization (FSPRT) currently has 7,535 “active” files. In other words, 7,535 individuals followed by one or the other of the intelligence services, knowing that 22,000 people were at one time or another in the radar of the services. At the Elysee Palace, it is pointed out that the radicalized illegal aliens appearing in this file have already been or will be deported,with the exception of those whose follow-up is necessary for the intelligence services to ward off terrorist threats.
If the internal threat is at its highest, the external threat is just as present.
In the Sahel, Paris is on the front line, targeted by groups representing locally both the Islamic State and al-Qaida.
Another danger: that of prisons.
