Because of the damage to their houses, 24 families had to move out temporarily after the flood in Oberdorfen.

Those affected demand more help from the city.

Oberdorfen

- Crisis meeting in the Am Seebach settlement: Less than a week after the flood disaster, the residents take stock.

There is a spirit of optimism, many have to leave their homes - and many are underinsured because the household insurance does not cover the damage in the event of floods.

The victims want an urban crisis management on site and urgently need financial support.

Heavy storms in the district of Erding: optimism in Oberdorfen

Brigitte M. has lived in the Am Seebach estate since 2002, i.e. right from the start. Four years after moving in, their basement was flooded for the first time. That's when she found out that there used to be a flood area here, she says: “100 years ago the village pond was here.” A flood always happens In the great flood of 2013, the water flooded her basement again.

At that time, Mayor Heinz Grundner was very cooperative, says M. A report was requested and a protective wall should be erected.

To do this, the city would have had to buy a meadow from the church.

“The church has not sold,” the residents annoy.

There are also many questions in the room.

"Why did the city council approve the construction of the settlement in a well-known flood area?" Summarizes local resident Odin Vollrath on behalf of his neighbors.

And: "Were the protective measures sufficient or could the flooding of the houses have been prevented?"

After a flood disaster in the Erding district: citizens feel abandoned

“We flooded for the first time last Monday,” says Stefan Zimmer. And further: "Now we are drinking for the second time because the city is failing us - many are drowning right now," is how the settlement spokesman describes the financial situation of those affected. Immediate measures are sorely needed, such as a support fund so that special flood windows can be built into the houses. "The case of a disaster was declared, so the city, the district of Erding or the Free State of Bavaria must release resources so that we can upgrade the houses uniformly," says Zimmer.

Generally speaking, people feel abandoned by the city, they say.

Associations, companies and individual citizens offer their help, but this would have to be coordinated.

But instead of acting, the city only reacts, according to Zimmer.

In response to pressure from residents, Mayor Grundner has now promised to appoint an urban coordinator.

But he is sitting in the town hall.

“But we need a task force directly on site,” demands Zimmer.

24 families would have to coordinate their move, explains the settlement spokesman.

The city could take over the logistics.

It was not until Friday that a number of residents found out that they would not be able to live in their houses in the coming months.

Including many families with children who are currently staying in the Hotel am Marienhof or in the apartments on the B 15.

Oberdorfen: Families have to leave home - "The nerves are on edge"

"This is not a permanent solution," says local resident Franz Wunschik.

He reports on families whose houses were not adequately insured: “In the event of fire, theft or a water pipe burst, the insurance pays, in the event of floods it does not.

Those who have not taken out additional insurance against natural hazards will get nothing. "

“Your nerves are on edge,” says Vollrath.

“We are afraid that some residents are almost traumatized.” There are existential fears that burden many of those affected - and it also wears down the fear of another flood disaster.

"We never want to experience something like this again," says Vollrath and calls for rapid protective measures against extreme weather events: "The next heavy rain is coming, that's for sure."

Wunschik refers to the sewer system that is overflowing.

Or the damage to the road that goes through the settlement.

Here the road has sunk, a funnel has been created - directly under the gas pipes.

“Are we still sure about that?” He asks.
