Camilo arrived at LaLiga: he is the first artist to score a season

Camilo tells Zona Pop CNN the details of how "KESI" became the official theme of the 2021/2022 season of LaLiga de España.

(CNN Spanish) -

The Colombian singer-songwriter Camilo is one of the most acclaimed artists of the moment.

Not only does he have collaborations with interpreters like Selena Gómez and Shawn Mendes, he also came to LaLiga de España.

And not precisely to play soccer, but to be part of LaLiga's musical campaign, in which for the first time they launch a song to promote a season.

And for this they choose a Latin American, a Colombian.

The chosen song was "KESI", a global hit that is part of "Mis Manos", Camilo's second record production.

The song, which features indigenous Colombian rhythms fused with Camilo's global pop, was specially modified to speak of the passion that soccer awakens in the followers of the discipline.

For Camilo, the challenge was simple, but at the same time important.

So important, perhaps, that even his very popular mustache would be modified.

How did Camilo get to LaLiga?

The collaboration between LaLiga and Camilo was announced in early August.

"All this is emerging from the deep illusion. I am a football fan. I come from a country that is also a football fan. And especially the Spanish LaLiga for us is a reason for celebration, but always," said Camilo in an interview from Madrid with Zona Pop CNN.

"Let a song of mine be a flag of celebration, because music and football are almost the same thing, right? Beyond the instruments that one thing is a guitar and a ball, or sound and a ball, they play with the same thing, the same energy of the community, of celebration, of expectation, "said the singer.

For LaLiga, the choice of Camilo to be the first artist to play a season to music was not random.

"Camilo is one of the most influential artists in Latin music today and we do not doubt that he was the best possible protagonist for our campaign. Together we have achieved that more than 2 million people in less than a month have danced the

LaLiga version official, "Eva López, LaLiga's global brand director, told CNN en Español.

"LaLiga is committed to continuing to reach an increasingly wide audience, regardless of age, gender or culture. Soccer and music are a universal language capable of reaching young and old," added López.

Perhaps what makes this union more special is to once again enjoy group shows after the coronavirus pandemic paralyzed the entire world.

Of course, not all countries in the world have the advantages that some European countries do, thanks to the vaccination rates that allow the return to stadiums and concerts.

In Spain, for example, 70% of the population has already received at least one dose of the vaccine against covid-19, according to data published by La Moncloa last week.

Precisely this possibility of collective celebration is something that excites Camilo.

"May my music be the flag of this season of celebration in Spanish LaLiga, first for me, as an artist, as a musician, as a soccer fan, it is gigantic, but as a Colombian and as a person who was eager to celebrate collectively again after a season in which the word collectivity became a word that was not used a lot, because I feel double, triple, lucky, "Camilo told Zona Pop CNN.

Spain's infatuation with Camilo

Camilo's relationship with Spain is special.

One of familiarity, says the Colombian.

He has been seen on popular television shows, captivating his hosts with his accent and music.

He has collaborated with artists such as Pablo Alborán, whom he invited to interpret "El misma aire", the theme of his first album "Por primera vez".

Dani Martín also invited him to the song "Paper plane" and also took it to his beloved Zahara de los Atunes to work on "Whatever I wanted."

Little by little a niche has been made in the Spanish market, one that generally looked to the other side of the pond to conquer that much-desired market: the Latino one.

"Since I was little I have dreamed, I had the deep illusion of seeing myself face to face with the Spanish public. I am a fan of the Spanish public, I am a fan of the music of Spain. My first influences were from here and for me it was like an illusion. I came with the expectation of a general hug with Spain, without expecting me far from it, the quality of reception that my music has had, my cause, my sound, my family, my songs, by the Spanish public, far above what that I could have dreamed, or compared, or dreamed from ambition, "Camilo told Zona Pop CNN.

The Colombian is currently on tour in Spain, with several of his sold-out box office performances.

Later he will go to the United States, where he will offer 13 concerts, whose tickets are already completely sold out.
