In support of people with disabilities and help them integrate into society, the Syrian Special Olympics Foundation honored nine male and female athletes who excelled in the preparatory and secondary certificates to confirm that they are not only heroes in the sports field, but also in science.

Those honored in this category expressed, in statements to SANA, their happiness for this honor and the excellence they achieved thanks to their diligence and the support of their families and other institutions that care for them, such as the Special Olympics Foundation.

Amani Abdel Rahim Zakar excelled in the secondary certificate. She said that she studied diligently and obtained the mark that enables her to complete her university studies at the College of Fine Arts, noting that she writes poetry and loves public speaking and recitation, in addition to sports, pointing out that she won the gold medal through her participation in swimming championships in America and Abu Dhabi.

Maysa Zakkar, Amani's sister, indicated that she was admitted to merging schools in the basic education stage, but she left school for a while and after encouragement from a number of concerned institutions, she was able to complete her studies and was able to succeed and excel.

The student, Ayat Al-Aswad, got a distinguished mark in the third preparatory stage and excelled in bocce, as she confirmed that she will complete her university studies at the Faculty of Law, while her coach, the head of the bocce committee, Samar Mahfoud, pointed out that Ayat won first place in a local championship and that she is committed to training and is academically distinguished.

Nuha Al-Nisr, the mother of the student Yamen Kashour, explained that her son obtained a certificate of preparatory education this year as a result of her follow-up to him. She said that her son has skills and ambitions in the field of computer and copper engraving, in addition to being a badminton champion and loves singing and acting.

Student Ahmed Jalloun succeeded with distinction in the middle school certificate with the help of his mother and wants to obtain a secondary certificate and study dentistry. His mother, Lina Jafan, showed that the encouragement he received from the family and other concerned institutions made him excel.

The director of the Syrian Special Olympics Initiatives, Saleh Saleh, stated, for his part, that the Foundation seeks to provide all the support for people with disabilities and integrate them into society in the correct manner, explaining that he wants to send a message to the community through this honor that this category is not only champions in the sports field, but also in the academic field, expressing hope To find sufficient support to continue their scientific and sports career.

For his part, the National Director of the Syrian Special Olympics Foundation, Talal Barniya, indicated that this initiative comes to support this segment in a way that helps it integrate into society more, stressing that a child with a disability is able to reach the highest levels scientifically, athletically or culturally, pointing out that there are events held every Two months to activate these groups in the community.

In turn, the Chairman of the Special Olympics Board, Tarif Qutrash, stated that the Foundation always seeks to raise this category and support it by involving it in about 22 games, and currently the focus is on activities that strengthen them, pointing to the presence of an integrated work team to support and follow up this category.

During the past ten years, he said, we were able to implement a lot of work that helped them integrate into society through their participation in all activities, noting that in the coming days we will witness championships at the governorate level, and each governorate will be responsible for a game or activity.

It is noteworthy that the Special Olympics Foundation was established in 1992 and is concerned with developing the skills and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities to practice their sports activities.
