An oil slick is spreading in the Gulf of Mexico.

Hurricane Ida appears to be the cause.

But cleaning teams are still looking.

Port Fourchon / Louisiana - Last Sunday (September 5th, 2021) divers found an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, south of Louisiana.

The oil apparently erupted during the deadly Hurricane Ida through a leaky pipeline on the sea floor.

They found a 30-centimeter pipeline that came loose from its position.

Apparently it was bent, according to Talos Energy.

Talos is the company that laid the pipeline in the Gulf south of the United States *.

It is based in Houston.

"In addition, two pipelines with open ends were identified in the vicinity that were not owned by Talos and which appear to have come loose before," it said.

The company is now working with federal agencies - including the American Coast Guard - to find out where the oil spill came from.

A spokesman for the Coast Guard told Reuters that Talos hired cleaning troops to take measures to keep environmental damage to a minimum.

At the same time, a private diving team was put together to find out the cause.

Hurricane Ida: Oil spill still in the Gulf of Mexico

Current satellite images from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) showed that the oil trail was three kilometers south of the coast of Port Fourchon Louisiana - a key oil industry and the place where Ida first appeared as a Category 4 hurricane .

According to reports, the oil spill is still in the sea.

Cleaning troops and the American Coast Guard Service continue to try to find out the cause.

Hurricane Ida raged over Louisiana and caused enormous damage: over a million people were without electricity.

President Joe Biden * spoke of a major disaster and provided funds for rescue and reconstruction.

The hurricane then moved further northeast, killing dozens of people and causing major damage across much of the United States.
