The manhunt is intense.
Six prisoners from one cell managed to escape from the ultra-secure Gilboa prison in northern Israel, where hundreds of Palestinian activists are held.
They used a large network of pipes and empty spaces to end up, at the end of an underground passage, outside the penitentiary.
There, an accomplice was waiting for them in a vehicle.
According to Shin Beth, Internal Intelligence, the escapees coordinated with accomplices using a smuggled cell phone.
The great escape took place in the dark night, this Monday around 3 am.
Its discovery was noted during a count.
An Israeli prison official described the breach as
“A major security and intelligence failure”.
