With
a sentence of nine years in prison for money laundering
, the eldest of Lázaro Báez's male children obtained authorization from the Federal Oral Court 4 (TOF 4) to
return to Río Gallegos and serve under house arrest.
He will remain in his two-story property, valued at
more than 7.5 million pesos
in 2016.
Martín Báez
traveled this weekend and will be monitored with an anklet.
For a few months, a street away separated Lázaro Báez from his son.
In a private neighborhood in the south of Greater Buenos Aires, both were serving their arrest as neighbors.
They used to have adjoining cells in the Ezeiza Prison.
Convicted of money laundering, Martín Báe
z entered jail two years ago,
after the justice found that he
ordered the transfer of money that was in an
offshore
account
located in Panama.
For this violation of the precautionary measures imposed, the TOF 4 issued preventive detention.
The position of the judges who ended up condemning him to nine years as an organizer of money laundering maneuvers was always the same: Martín must remain in prison because he
demonstrated that he has contacts to evade judicial measures.
However, last June 11, Chamber IV of the Chamber of Cassation ordered that he be granted the benefit of house arrest
without paying the bail that had been imposed, of 531,437,500 million pesos.
But his defense attorney, Laura Díaz, went for more, and requested that Martín Báez be authorized to return to Río Gallegos and carry out house arrest there.
The central argument was that the initial and primary level school year had been restarted and "that
the educational establishment attended by Martín Báez's children had arranged for a return to face-to-face attendance,
so it was necessary to establish a new family home for the purposes of
guaranteeing the rights of children
".
Faced with this scenario, the prosecutor
Abel Córdoba
requested the Directorate of Assistance for People Under Electronic Surveillance to draw up a report on the social and environmental conditions of the reference of the place offered, the corresponding technical report of the proposed address.
It was asked if Báez could be monitored during the transfer.
With favorable opinions from all the reports, the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office endorsed the transfer of Lázaro Báez's son under the custody of a Security force, so that he can return to the capital of Santa Cruz, where he will remain with an electronic anklet, as recorded in the resolution to which
Clarín
agreed
.
Martín Báez will remain in one of the 1,420 assets acquired by his father, according to the courts,
with funds of illegal origin
.
This universe of properties and vehicles was appraised by court order and at the end of 2017 they were assigned a value of 205 million dollars.
Martín Báez's villa was raided in 2016 and
is located on Comodoro PY street
, two blocks from Cristina Kirchner's house in the capital of Santa Cruz.
The property, which has a landscaped garden and large windows, was his place of residence until the scandal of the Route of Money K broke out. After more than three years, Báez's son returned to that property, which
is seized by order judicial and with a confiscation order
linked to the conviction he received in February of this year.
Like his father, Martín was convicted of having laundered 55 million dollars using the Austral Construcciones firm, of which he owns 5%.
His judicial situation was complicated when the images of the financial SGI - known as
"La Rosadita"
- were
revealed
, showing him with his father's trusted men, counting more than five million dollars.
His sisters Luciana and Melina and his brother Leandro Báez live in Río Gallegos.
All ended up condemned
with different roles, but as participants in the maneuvers led by their father.
