The Thuringian state parliament has one more episode.

The FDP loses its status as a parliamentary group - and on top of that, probably also in financial support.

Erfurt - In the state parliament of Thuringia there are still headlines apart from the political events of the day.

The FDP is now withdrawn from the parliamentary group.

The background to this is the resignation of MP Ute Bergner from the FDP parliamentary group.

The 63-year-old announced in writing that she was leaving the party on Monday and is switching to the Citizens for Thuringia party.

In doing so, she ensures changes for the Thuringian FDP.

Thuringia: Five minus one - FDP loses status as a parliamentary group

Because the four remaining FDP MPs under their previous parliamentary group leader Thomas Kemmerich can no longer form their own parliamentary group.

According to the law on representatives, a parliamentary group must consist of at least five people.

According to Kemmerich, the liberals want to continue working as a so-called parliamentary group in the state parliament.

"The formal designation will change, but not the content and style of our politics." The FDP will continue to introduce its own legislative proposals.

But she probably has less financial means available for this.

Thuringia: Less money for the FDP?

The basic amount is to be reduced by half

Representatives of the Left, SPD, Greens and CDU made it clear on Monday that the financial contributions for a group must differ significantly from those of a parliamentary group. A proposal by the state administration provides for the basic amount of around 48,000 euros per month to be reduced by half, said the parliamentary managing directors. It is still unclear whether this will happen.

It is expected that a special session of parliament will decide on Thursday whether the FDP * can form a group and thus retain some rights.

The fact that FDP MPs can continue to work in the specialist committees, for example, is largely undisputed.

Only the AfD advocates depriving the FDP of all rights that were associated with the parliamentary group status.

There are differences of opinion on the question of whether the Free Democrats in the state parliament can continue to appoint a vice-president.

Thuringia: next hick-hack in the state parliament - chaos since the last elections

Ute Bergner's personality is quite explosive. The FDP politician was the only liberal in the Thuringian state parliament to support new elections. The originally planned dissolution of the state parliament and thus a new election failed in July due to a lack of majorities. Left, SPD and Greens are currently forming a minority government under Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left). Originally, a new state parliament was to be elected at the same time as the Bundestag at the end of September.

There has recently been increased chaos in the Thuringian state parliament. After the last state elections, there was a government crisis because the FDP politician Thomas Kemmerich was elected Prime Minister with votes from the AfD *. Ramelow even had to face a constructive vote of no confidence in July. AfD politician Björn Höcke stood for election. The vote was boycotted by the CDU - which caused criticism. Ultimately, only the AfD voted against Ramelow and for Höcke anyway. The party already stated at the beginning that it was only about a "symbol" anyway.
