Philosophy offers at the OvTG

The Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium in Gautingen has concluded another cooperation with a university - with the one for philosophy in Munich.

The Gautinger Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium (OvTG) already has a lot to offer with gifted classes, TUMKolleg, wind class or MINT, and now another component is being added: “a pioneering offer” for the philosophical education of pupils like the the Munich University of Philosophy (HFPH) announced new cooperation partners.

"With this cooperation, the OvTG and the HFPH want to make their contribution to a modern personality development that is theoretically sound and practically effective taking into account the global, social challenges of the 21st century," says the university, which is supported by the Jesuit order , is officially recognized and has existed for more than 90 years. The cooperation, which was concluded during the summer vacation, includes a proseminar program for highly gifted students in grades 8 to 11, which particularly gifted OvTG students can attend from the winter semester. Five are initially planned, one topic being, for example, “Basics of Artificial Intelligence: A Critical Introduction”.Eleventh graders at the Gautinger Gymnasium can also take a “Philosophical Orientation Year” from the end of 2023, for which the pupils collect time beforehand - for example if they skip a class. Then the high school students are full-time at the university. According to the university, other parts of the cooperation include visits by students from W seminars to proseminars at the university. For example, students from the W seminar of Pastor Peter Samhammer at the OvTG will take part in the introductory seminar “Homo ludens. A foray through the philosophy of gaming ”by Prof. Dr. Claudia Paganini (HFPH) will take part in the coming winter semester. Experts from the university are also available as interlocutors for P seminars of the OvTG.if they would skip a class. Then the high school students are full-time at the university. The university and grammar school have already tested some parts, as the director of studies Markus Greif, an employee of the school administration in Gauting, explains. There is a demand from the student side. In the humanities it was always difficult to find a partner like at the TUMKolleg - now the high school has found one with the HFPH. The new offers are intended to offer a foretaste of the university and provide impulses beyond the school environment. Some things will only be possible with the new G9; in the G8, cooperation would have been unthinkable. “The cooperation with the Philosophy College is a great stroke of luck for the Otto von Taube Grammar School. As before, the aim of the grammar school course is to start studying. With the concept of individual support, which also enables the particularly gifted to fully develop their potential,the school is already very advanced. Now, in addition to the natural science focus, the humanities area can also be adequately covered as the second pillar of education, ”explained headmistress Sylke Wischnevsky about the collaboration.
